Shikshashtakam- The teachings of Shri Chaitanya

Here is the teachings of Shri Chaitanya to his followers. So wonderful and poignant that only following these ideals one can progress so much in the spiritual journey, and at the end, one can reach the destination :)

I really love to go through these teachings again and again, so sharing it with you all .

(Source- http://stotraratna.sathyasaibababrotherhood.org/k24.htm

Translated by P. R. Ramchander.)

"Cheto darpana marjanam bhava maha davagni nirvapanam,
Shreyah kairava chandrika vitaranam Vidya vadhujivanam,
Anandambuhdhi vardhanam pratipadam purnamrita asvadanam,
Sarvatmasnapanam param vijayate shrikrishnasankirtanam."                                              1

Victory to the singing of the names of Krishna,
Which cleans the dirt from the mirror of the heart,
Which puts out the fire of the pain of day today life,
Which spreads the cooling rays of moon everywhere,
Which is the knowledge accumulated by the holy,
Which increases the sea of happiness for ever,
Which makes us taste , fully the divine nectar,
And which is eagerly desired by all beings.

"Namnam akari bahudha nija sarvashakti
Statrarpita niyamitah smarane na kalaha
Etadrishi tava kripa bhagavan mamapi
durdaivam idrisham ihajani nanuragahah"                                                                            2

You have several millions of names,
Which can give real strength to all beings,
And you do not have any rules to chant them,
And this shows me that you are merciful towards me,
But I being unfortunate am not attracted by them.

"Trinad api sunicena
Taror api sahishnuna
Amanina manadena
Kirtaniyah sada harihi"                                                                                                          3

We should constantly sing the names of Hari,
With more humility than a dried grass,
With more tolerance than a tree,
And with a mind without false prestige.

"Na dhanam na janam na sundarim
Kavitam va jagad-isha kamaye
Mama janmani janmanishvare
Bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi."                                                                                        4

I do not wish for wealth or followers,
I do not wish for pretty women,
Oh Lord of the entire universe,
But I want to dedicate this life,
And all life after it is in your service.

"Ayi nanda-tanuja kinkaram
Patitam mam vishame bhavambudhau
Kripaya tava pada-pankaja-
Sthita dhulisadrisham vichintaya "                                                                                        5

I am your slave, Oh son of Nanda,
But have fallen deep in this sea of birth and death,
So please pick me up from here,
And make me in to a dust of,
Your lotus like feet.

"Nayanam galad-ashru-dharaya
Vadanam gadgada-ruddhaya gira
Pulakair nichitam vapuh kada
Tava nama-grahane bhavishyati"                                                                                   6

When will tears fall form my eyes,
When will my face choke up,
And when will my hairs stand erect,
When I hear the recitation of your names.

"Yugayitam nimeshena
Chakshusha pravrishayitam
Shunyayitam jagat sarvam
Govinda-virahena mey."                                                                                                        7

When I am not with you Govinda,
Every minute appears like an age,
My eyes shed tears like rain,
And the entire world appears empty.

"Ashlishya va pada-ratam pinashtu mam
Adarshanan marma-hatam karotu va
Yatha tatha va vidadhatu lampato
Mat-prana-nathas tu sa eva naparaha"                                                                                 8

My soul will be with him without condition,
Even if he chides me with dirty words,
Even if he breaks my heart by not being with me,
And do as he likes anything and everything.

Jai Shri Krishna!

Shri Chaitanya Jayanti

[Photo here is taken from the cover of a magazine ('Shaaptahik Bortomaan') containing article about Shri Chaitanya, 2-3 years back.]

With holi, we also celebrate the birth tithi of Mahaprabhu Shri Chaitanya. He won the hearts of all only with Pure Love!! It is said that, to experience the longing in the heart of Shri Radhe Rani, Shri Krishna Himself manifested as Shri Chaitanya! Thus He experienced the emotions of a Devotee, the pain of separation which exists in a love-lorn heart...

I won't be able to write anything about Shri Chaitanya, as it is a matter of heart, inexpressible thr' words... We have to FEEL his emotions in our heart to Realise the Existence of Shri Chaitanya!!

Here are some films, scenes and songs on Shri Chaitanya-

* Here is the part from Ramanand Sagar's 'Shri Krishna' where Shri Krishna decides to take birth as Shri Chaitanya after knowing about Shri Radhe Rani's emotions in details. A great scene!! Starts with Radhe Rani's opinion that Shri Krishna can't become Radha without FEELING the Heart of Radha (which is devoted to Shri Krishna). Do watch the video to experience the height of emotion/ love in the heart of a devotee.

(1st 3 minutes in this video)

* There is a good film 'Mahaprabhu Shri Chaitanya', where Saheb Chattopadhyay played the role of Shri Chaitanya, and Nitish Bharadwaj played the role of Shri Krishna. Sadly, I cannot find the film in Youtube now. Shri Chaitanya's longing for the Lord was very nicely shown in the film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pi4AgT2yvo

Here is a song from the film- 'Bhaja Hare Krishna Japa Hare Krishna', which is very nice. It tells us about the emotion in the heart of Shri Chaitanya. I have posted the lyrics in one of my previous posts, here is the link-
(http://dpriya-literaturefilmsmusic.blogspot.in/2010/08/bhaja-hare-krishna-japa-hare-krishna.html )

* Another famous bengali film on Shri Chaianya- 'Neelachale Mahaprabhu' is there in Youtube, which is also a classic film. I watched the film many times. Here also, the emotion is very very tangible!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vea04_6Zuko

* Another old bengali movie- 'Nader Nimai' has also been uploaded in Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPlnBayQKuE

* I have heard of another film on Shri Chaitanya, named - 'Bhagaban Shrikrishna Chaitanya', which is not there in Youtube, till now.

* A song expressing Shri Chaitanya's emotions when leaving his sansaar, beautiful music, lyrics and of course forgettable voice of Hemanta Mukhopadhyaya - 'Bishnupriya go, ami chole jai':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmzrTACJ2To

* Good news is that the famous Bengali serial on Shri Chaitanya- 'Mahaprabhu' has been uploaded on Youtube, I am So Happy today!! I have been waiting to watch this series again! It was really good presentation on the life ans teachings of Shri Chaitanya in Bengali television.  Here is the 1st episode :

Prakaasheshwar Mahadev Mandir at Dehradun

Continuing with the mood of Shivaraatri :), now I am writing about another temple of Mahadev, we visited last year. It is situated near Dehradun ( basically it falls in the road towards Mussoorie, only 10 kilometers from Dehradun).

This temple has a Shivalinga, beautifully decorated with flowers.

And also a crystal Shivalinga-

Prasaad is always given to the devotees after the visit.

One unique thing about the temple is that here tea is also given as prasad. I was very surprised to know about it!!

There are also some shops along with the mandir.

Giving any donation is strictly prohibited in this temple. It is repeatedly written there on the wall, which is also another unique feature of Prakaasheshwar Mahadev Mandir.

This is a famous temple of Dehradun. Local people as well as all the tourists also come to visit this temple everyday.

Here is the picture of the temple from outside-

And now, the Beautiful Nature on the opposite of the temple, truly reflecting the spirit of Mussoorie :) :)

Salutations to the Lord, to Mother Nature!!

On Namah Shivaya!

Bilkeshwar Mahadev Mandir at Haridwar

We came to know about Bilkeshwar Mahadev Mandir from the local residents of Haridwar. It is an old temple and very famous among the locals. Situated near the Railway Station of Haridwar, Bilkeshwar Mahadev is a small temple, which also has a Shivalinga and Nandi made of stone, along with a normal shivalinga in the temple. Here are the pictures of all of them-

It also has some small temples of Ganeshji, Hanumaanji, Mahadev and Mata Rani.

The area is a bit remote, we have to walk uphill, from the main road. The road has trees on both sides which seems like a jungle, at the evening, when we went there, that day. But one can always find devotees in the temple area. The road also has a Hanumaanji mandir, before the Bilkeshwar Mahadev mandir. I have also heard that there is 'Gouri Kund' near this temple, but we could not visit that.

Do visit the temple in your next trip to Haridwar :)

Om Namah Shivaya.

12 Jyotirlingas

As I referred to the 12 Jyotirlingas in my last post, I was thinking of writing a separate post about it.

Jyotirlinga is a shrine where the Lord is worshiped as a 'lingam/ pillar of light', where Lord Shiva manifested Himself for His devotees.

Here is a YouTube video showing all the 12 Jyotirlingas, along with the temples:-

Here is the 'Dwadash Jyotirlingam Stotra' by Adi Shankaracharya along with its English translation -

Last year we went to the Paradeshwar Mahadev mandir at Haridwar, where this stotra was written near a Rudraksh tree.  I remembered about it suddenly and thought to post the photo here :)

Shivaraatri 2013

Ever since the Shivaraatri day, I have been thinking of writing about the the way I spent the whole day :), but still, 4 days have already passed by....

Anyway, we did a small puja at home in the morning.

Then I watched only the later part of a film 'Har Har Mahadev' (1974) on TV, where Dara Singh played the role of Mahadev. I watched the film for the first time.  Sadly, I could not find the complete film on YouTube, only some of the songs are uploaded there  you can search with these  words- 'Mahshivaraatri Special Har Har Mahadev Movie', to watch those songs from YT.

I think, the story of the film taught us different virtues (mainly devotion) with many real life incidents/ characters, while the gods explaining about it from their abode. I liked it.  It has a song by a child, which is very nice-

At the end of the film, there was a song which showed all the 12 Jyotirlingas. On the pious day, I was Very Happy to get a darshan of all the Jyotirlingas along with the temples, at all those places. But I could not find that song on YouTube...

At the evening we went to Mangal Mahadev/ Shivmurti Garden nearby, which has really tall statues of Mahadev, Radha-Krishna and Shri Ram-Sita Mata. There was also a small fair near the garden. I guess some thousand people were there around the garden :). I was happy to be able to visit the Shivmurti, that day. The atmosphere was filled with joy!!  You can get an idea of the place from these pictures :)

That day also had a special episode of the serial- 'Devon ke Dev Mahadev', at Like OK channel, where we saw Mahadev- Parvati getting married again to fulfill the wish of Ganesh. That episode was also very Blissful!!

A blessed day came to an end :)

Om Namah Shivaya!

Shri Ramkrishna Paramhansa Jayanti!

Yesterday was Shri Ramkrishna Paramhansa's Birth Tithi, so I thought to post here :). With his Sincere Devotion and True Knowledge, Shri Ramkrishna will always be remembered, inspiring us to aim for the Almighty!! Teaching us the Pure Love to win all!! The childlike simplicity in his character was an unique feature! Which comes only after complete surrendership ..  Giving the proper direction to the life of Swami Vivekananda was another of his chief contribution!!

Here is the Y/T link of the famous Bengali film on Shri Ramkrishna- 'Jata Mat Tata Path' (All paths lead to the God)-

- Such a Profound Realisation!!! So True!! I just FEEL Thrilled to realise that Shri Ramkrishna ACTUALLY Experienced all these... He LIVED the TRUTH!!

Here is a Y/T link showing the 'Sadhaana' of Shri Ramkrishna (from the same film):-

I also enjoyed many episodes of the serial 'Premer Thakur Shri Ramkrishno', which was shown on Rupashi Bangla channel. They showed the saadhana parts in great details. Wonderful experience to BE 'WITH'  Shri Ramkrishna in his pursuit of the Truth!

Here is another film on Shri Ramkrishna-  'Bhagawan Shri Ramkrishna'

Truly, an Ocean Of Love!!!  No words are enough to describe him!!! ...

My salutations to the Great Personality!!

Jai Shri Ramkrishna!

Jai Ma Kaali!

Happy 'Maha Shivaraatri' - Karpur Gauram', 'Shankar Shiv Bhole', and Some Other Songs on Mahadev...

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow is Shivaraatri. A pious day for all the devotees!!

These days I am enjoying the show 'Devon ki Dev Mahadev' in Life OK. The element of Spirituality is very tangible in the serial! It is Blissful indeed!

Here I am sharing some songs from different tv serials

* Title song of 'Devon ki Dev Mahadev'-

'Karpoora gauram karunaavataaram samsaara saaram bhujagendra haaram

Sadaavasantam hridayaara vinde bhavam bhavaani sahitam namaami.'

YouTube link-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN-IQ6n4OEk

* Another song from 'Devon ki Dev Mahadev'-

'Shankar Shiv Bhole Umapati Mahadev
Palanhaar Parameshwar Vishwaroop Mahadev'

The music is very very sweet, it just soothes our ears...

Here is the YouTube link-  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohaLansw5Zg

* Now the 'Shiva Shiva' background tune from the serial-

(Lyrics- 'Shiva Shiva Shiva Shiva/ Aadi Anant Shiva'/ Yogi Mahadev' )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEECIyyDfH4

* And here is the 'Mahamrityunjaya Mantra', a famous and powerful mantra, also used in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan'-

'Om Tryambakam Yajamahe
Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan
Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat'

(YouTube -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEFCb7kAfGU)

* Now a nice scene from Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan' , where we can see Shri Ram offering prayer to His aaradhya- Mahadev (i.e.- the 'Rameshwaram sthaapna' scene)
Here we have two different interpretations of the word- 'Rameshawar' (By Shri Ram and Mahadev, respectively)-

~ "Ram: ishwaro yasya sa Rameshwar:"

~  "Ramasya Ishwar: yah, sa Rameshwar:"

(YouTube link-  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fVyHhs0qAE)

In the same sequence,  some lines from 'Ramcharitmanas' has also been used-

"Ling sthaapi vidhivat kari pooja, siv samaan priy, mohe n duja;
Sivdrohi mam bhagat kahaao, so nar sapnehu mohe n paavon;
Sankar vimukh bhagati chahe mori, so naar ki mudh mati thori."

Watch the whole sequence here -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKVBKwuXXno

(the scene starts at 28 min and continues in the next part...)

* And lastly,  here is the Title sequence of the serial- 'Om Namah Shivay'! The dance of Mahadev (performed by Samar Jai Singh)  is so powerful here!!! The music kept echoing in my ears in the childhood, when the serial used to come on Doordarshan. And the dance vividly remained in my memory since then!!
Watch it here-  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zWwTTAc7O8

Lots of Best Wishes to all of you on this occasion!!
