Happy Narsimha Jayanti and Budhha Purnima

Yesterday was Shri Narsimha Jayanti. In fact, I didn't know about this occasion until last week when I went through the calendar and found out that 26 May has been marked as Narsimha Jayanti. After that I searched the net about this occasion. This is what I have got:

People keep fast on this auspicious day falling generally around the April/May, meditate on Lord Nrisimha and seek his grace to have the devotion like that of Prahlad. In charity the devotees give cows, grains, gold, robes etc., to the poor and the learned Brahmins according to their capacity. Lord Nrisimha symbolizes Omni presence of God and His deep concern and love for the devotees as also victory of good over evil.

Actually I was also very afraid of this Narsimha Avatar from my childhood, whenever I have heard the stories from my Mom. But now I understand the necessity of that Narsimha (Man+Lion) appearance,(i.e.- to nullify the the boon which Hiranyakashipu received from Brahma). This story introduces us with the Great character of Prahlad- being born in Rakshas clan, he became the a Great Devotee of the Lord…Indeed a Pious character(as also explained by Lola on page 116, while referring about 'gunas' and how to transcend them) .

It is really a coincidence that today is Buddha Purnima. I have always felt very strongly about Gautam Buddha and his teachings from my childhood. He is like a representation of Peace and Enlightenment to me. I just love to read/listen/discuss about the Philosophy of Gautam Budhha- so many Basic Truths about our Existence are conveyed by Him with so Simple Words…

I am very HAPPY to share these occasions with you all this year.

Wishing Happy Narsimha Jayanti and Budhha Purnima to all of you.

VISIT TO THE SCHOOL WHERE I WORKED FOR 4 YEARS

Recently I went to the school where I worked for nearly 4 years . And I had great fun throughout the whole day. Now I will write about it in detail –

One day when I called up my Principal to wish her on an occasion, she asked me to join them in the annual fete in the coming days. After I left the school (as my husband changed his job), I never went back there. So, this time, I decided to give it a try.

Though it is really far from my house but I started early so that I can have all the fun from the beginning! And it was worth it – TRULY! I met so many students, colleagues, the attendants, the gatekeeper, all the staff – I loved to meet them all. Many of my former students and their parents came to me, they were also very happy to find me after nearly one and half years. Some students went and bought their friends also to meet their “ma’m”. I had Nice time . I received a warm welcome from my Principal and Director Sir, President Sir. Truly – who could have guessed that I would have such a nice time in the school which I have already left! Today as a writing about it – I am re-living that day, and feeling glad again!

I am so grateful to the LORD, that HE has given me such a Day to Enjoy and Appreciate life ! Truly Life is Beautiful! Sometimes you face a sweet moment so unexpectedly that you are totally taken aback by the Intensity of that experience! Living each and every moment in HIS creation is Beautiful!

With Lots of Best Wishes for all .

A PRAYER FOR THE DEPARTED SOULS

Today I want to dedicate this post to the persons (my relatives and acquaintances ) who recently left us . as the LORD had wished . we received the news of passing away of many of the elder members of our family , also some from my friends , neighbours .the list is quite long – one of my aunt , one of my uncle , the father in law of my cousin , the mother of my aunt , the mother of my brother’s friend … - it just goes on … it all happened in recent one month . so for all of them I want to write – we loved you all , and will be missing you . but we will try to control our sadness because we know that everything happens according to the WILL of the LORD . as it has rightly been said in LORD’S PRAYER –“THY will be done “ – so we all respect HIS decision . I know there must be some deep significance behind their paasing away in this particular time . HE will guide you all in your journey afterwards . we have complete FAITH in HIM , and believe that all of you will find Peace in HIS company .

Praying for HIS blessings for all,

Jai Shri Krishna

GITA PRESS , Gorakhpur

HELLO ,

Again I was absent for a long time …these days I am busy in my social networking site posts , discussions and readings on spirituality . today I am posting here to let you all know about the recent developments in my life .

Recently I bought two of my favourite books – Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran and Ramcharit Manas . since last one year I was planning to purchase these books . but recently when we went to book fair , I found the Bengali translations of these two books ! it was like a SURPRISE for me ! I was SO HAPPY to bring those books with me .

Now at first about the books –

Shrimad Bhagwat is about Shri Krishna and other incarnations of Lord Vishnu . it is written by Ved Vyas . it is said that , after completing Mahabharat , he was still feeling incomplete .then he composed Shrimad Bhagwat . it gave him the Bliss which was missing in his previous composition . the focus of this text is the Devotion for the LORD .

Ramcharitmanas – as we all know that it is written by the great Tulsidasji . in it he has sang the glory of LORD RAM .

Both these text are considered as very pious and generates Bhakti Ras in the mind ogf the reader . as I am experiencing the Divine Love of the LORD these days , so decided to read these texts so that I can plunge deep into the ocean of the BLISS through them .

Now I will write about the publisher . Gita Press is a publication which publishes religious/spiritual writings, scriptures – in Different Languages and in Subsidized Prices . you all will be surpised to know the prices of all those famous books ! all the books have nice prints/fonts . another important point is that , the standard of all the translations are also maintained at the same level as the original texts , which is generally very rare to find in translated literature .

Today I dedicate this post of mine to Gita Press who are doing such a great work to help mankind ! I have purchased from them in many previous occasions also – like Bhagwat Gita and a compilation of nine Upanishadas (both in bengali ) . I would request everyone to grab this opportunity ! (i.e.- at least try for once to visit their stalls whenever you find one ) . I am always happy to visit their stalls (be it Delhi Book Fair or New Delhi station) . my best wishes for the team for their future endeavours !

Posting After 3 Months …

I’m posting after a long time , nearly 3 months …. I have been busy since last few months . but always felt certain responsibility for my blog , my own creation ... today , finally I’ve decided to post here about how’s my life going these days , what am I doing , what am I thinking and so on …

Firstly I want to write about my visit to my hometown . I went during DURGA PUJA and enjoyed a lot with relatives and friends .

After coming back , I had some guests in our house and spend a good time with them . now again I’m back to my old routine of reading and writing .

Currently I am reading UDDHAVA GITA and Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s KRISHNA CHARITRA . and also watching my favourite 2 shows – RAMAYAN and MAHABHARAT on TV .

All these are giving me enough material to reflect on . they are also encouraging me to know further about the philosophies /concepts explained /shown in them .

I also watch the serial MEERA , though I feel they are stressing too much on politics and social reformation , rather than DEVOTION .

So that’s all for today . i’ll try to discuss different topics which are making me think , in my coming posts .

With lots of best wishes

INDEPENDENCE DAY

Last week we celebrated the INDEPENDENCE DAY , like every year . I personally feel , in an independent country , this day gradually loses its importance . This is a paradox itself that when the country is ruled by another , it struggles for freedom . But once they attain it , its relevance starts to decrease .

Actually , we are born after so many years of freedom struggle that we can’t relate ourselves to those days . May be that is the reason we are not conscious that we are a citizen of a free country . So we don’t act in a responsible way always . It comes to us as a natural thing , a fact . We really can’t do anything to carry on the memories of those days with us . That won’t be a practical step either (i.e.—only to remember and pay respect to the freedom fighters ) .

The main action which we all can do is to devote our time to upliftment of our country . Actually money , time and sincere effort – all are needed in this journey . We can find many faults regarding our country , but we should not forget that it is our MOTHERLAND . So we have our duty towards it .
The thinking should not be ‘what this country has given me’ , but how much I can do for my country . With our genuine endeavours , we can help the country to progress . Simply by being helpful and doing good to others .
Another thing I want to write about is -- CORRUPTION . No doubt it is a BIG problem for our country at the present time . Every person gets motivated by his/her own selish aim in life and forgets their role in the larger scheme of things . Thus corruption spreads from a small origin and takes a big shape after some time . Every person has to fight against it , otherwise it can’t be cured . If we behave in the proper way , be aware of our responsibilities , think and act sincerely and keep the issue of our NATION in our mind , then our culminative effort will definitely show its result in the betterement of our country --- our very own the great –INDIA .
With best wishes ,

What Am I Doing These Days ?

Well I am watching 3 serials - RAMAYAN , MAHABHARAT , SHRI KRISHNA and writing , reading and discussing about them .

So why am I not posting in my blog ?

Really , I don’t have an answer .
I think , I was trying to post something from the world around me , but now a days I am too much involved in the world of RAM-KAURAV-PANDAV-KRISHNA --- so could not figure out a single topic to post here in last 14 days . indeed a great mistake on my part .

Ok, if not mistake , then we may call it indecisiveness on my part .

I am a great believer of the proverb — Better Late Than Never .
(i.e.— correct it as soon as you find out your fault – surprised ? it is my interpretation …! )

Following that , today I decided to post about the current state of my mind so that no communicate gap remains between me and you ( the readers of my blog ) .

I want to start with the recent KANS VADH episode of SRI KRISHNA serial –
For many days we were witnessing the terror of KANSA , but when KRISHNA killed him , in fact I also felt relaxed as an audience .

ARISTOTLE has said about tragedy that after a tragedy the feelings we undergo can be expressed as –CATHARSIS ( emotional cleansing , audience gets emotionally healed/ cleansed by experiencing the emotions which the principal characters go through .) .

MILTON says at the end of SAMSON AGONISTES –“calm of mind ,all passion spent “(after experiencing the turmoil of feeling , they have achieved tranquility of mind ) .

Truly , this state was achieved in MATHURA RAAJSABHA . In fact the same can be experienced after the battles of RAMAYAN and MAHABHARAT .

Though I can’t remember RAMAYAN very well , but I have seen the last episode of MAHABHARAT recently . Same was the experience in that case also – after all the drama , intrigue , war – when the peace is established in a state there is nothing greater than that .

The epics are a treasure of the lessons handed down to us by our ancestors . It is upto us how much we can learn and use them in our daily life . So I prefer to watch there serials rather than watching mindless daily soaps , most of which have neither any specific aim (conclusive ending ) nor lessons to teach us .

So this is my overall view on serials . I can still write a lot about it (why I love RAMAYAN , MAHABHARAT , SHRI KRISHNA ) , but that I am reserving to post in any future occasion .

With best wishes ,

Dpriya
